Meet Dr. Segio Oehninger
When we set out to find our fertility doctor, our mission was to find someone who was as passionate about educating women about fertility preservation as we were. Enter – Dr. Sergio Oehninger. Before joining Trellis, Dr. Oehninger was the Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at The Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine — the same institute where IVF technology was pioneered. In addition to helping the women at Trellis, he also treats infertility patients at our sister fertility clinic – SIRM in New York City.
His approach to working with any fertility patient has always been straightforward, his aim is “to offer a friendly environment” paired with state-of-the-art techniques.
Like a true intellectual, Dr. O is fascinated with the evolving science of reproductive endocrinology, “I have witnessed an amazing increase in pregnancy rates in IVF in the last three decades as the result of multiple factors including better hormonal preparations, improved IVF laboratory quality control and assurance, new culture media, and better embryo transfer techniques.”
But what keeps him in the practice isn’t just progress in the field, it’s also the people he has treated and the results of his work that he is proud of, “helping infertility couples achieve their dreams of starting a family. My work has resulted in the delivery of over five thousand babies…” which, in case you needed some perspective, five thousand humans are enough to fill the Staten Island Ferry. So yes, we’re pretty proud of Dr. O’s accomplishment too!
During his decades of experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Oehninger has become a true believer in IVF and egg freezing as a safe option for women who want options to preserve their fertility. He brings this studied enthusiasm to his patients as well, “Be optimistic,” he tells them, “technology is here to help you, and although we cannot guarantee one or more babies, the banked eggs will be here as a safety measure. And it works! But age is a huge factor – it is the #1 factor that affects your fertility.”
